MSA
Dear Parents,
As well as having full authorisation by the Spanish Ministry of Education, El Limonar International School belongs to and is accredited by MSA. This organisation requires its accredited schools to follow a calendar of periodic inspections and self-studies. As the Internal Coordinator for MSA, I would like to take this opportunity to inform all members of the school community about the process of renewal of accreditation which the school is currently undertaking.
MSA is an acronym for the Middle States Association. This Association aims to promote the welfare and improvement of education. Everyone in the school community (whom MSA call the stakeholders) is actively involved, whether they are members of staff (teaching, ancillary, administrators etc), parents or pupils.
MSA has adopted Standards for each major area of a school’s work and activity that must be met as a condition for accreditation of an international school. Accreditation responds to the public’s demands for improved quality and greater accountability, in all areas of the school, not just academic ones.
The Standards are divided into 2 areas:
Foundational Standards: Standards addressing best practices in the components of a school that provide the foundations for quality in the education program, services, and results in terms of student learning.
Operational Standards: Standards addressing best practices in delivering the education programme, services, and activities to the students.
You may remember, your input was requested in all of these standards in the two surveys sent to you in 2007 and 2009 to ascertain the areas in which we needed to improve. We have taken steps to improve based on concerns raised by stakeholders in the aforementioned surveys.
We are currently seeking accreditation in the AFG (accreditation for growth) protocol which is a seven year cycle from the time of an MSA Team visit. This team will visit towards the end of this term.
The aforementioned is a very brief overview of the accreditation process we are currently carrying out. If you would like more information, or if you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for your time.
Yours faithfully
Diane Walsh
