This year’s first stage of the ELIS cup Science Quiz saw teams from El Palmar and Villamartín battle each other through 5 brain-testing, wit-sharpening rounds of scientific trials. The teams of four, comprising one student from each secondary year group showed their supreme knowledge in answering questions on their own and in picture, puzzle, famous faces , inventions microscopy rounds in teams, as well as tackling questions at the speed of light in the buzzer quick-fire round. The 40 minute game show style quiz saw the students from Villamartín take an early and commanding lead of nearly 30 points by the end of the first round. El Palmar responded with a sterling effort, matching Villamartín’s efforts, even managing to beat them in the last round, but finally the prowess and superior reactions of Villamartín’s team proved victorious, the final score being 62 : 43.
It was an event enjoyed by all, and the students should be congratulated for their effort and enthusiasm. Round two will take place in Villamartín in the new year with two fresh teams, ready to do battle in the name of their school’s honor.
