Spanish Day

20 December 2010

On Monday 20th December, the long awaited “Spanish Day” took place in the Secondary Department at El Limonar International Villamartin. This year all secondary students took part in a show based on the songs by “Los Payasos de la Tele”, a famous group of Spanish clowns  from the 1970’s, still present in nearly all Spanish homes. All Infant groups at El Limonar were invited to the show at the end of the day and they were also visited by the older pupils who painted their faces and gave them animals and objects, such as swords, flowers, dogs, made out of balloons.  José Martínez, the Spanish Co-ordinator in Secondary was delighted with the results and the Spanish Department was congratulated by colleagues and students alike.

On a different topic, two siblings, Daniel and Amy, who left El Limonar last year have had wonderful experiences thanks to their Spanish studies.  Amy, who achieved excellent IGCSE results at El Limonar, was one of 30 youngsters picked out of the whole of England to take part in the “Ruta Quetzal 2011” contest (http://www.rutaquetzalbbva.com). First place was awarded with a six week trip to Peru together with winners from all over the world. She went through a series of tests (including Spanish test) and finally achieved a highly commendable 6th place, for which she is to be congratulated. Her brother, Daniel, finished his A levels at El Limonar last year and went on to Glasgow University to study Business and Spanish. To his delight, and after doing a Spanish level test, he was fast forwarded to the second year of Spanish studies due to his high level.
