Transfer to Primary

El Limonar International School offers pupils the option of studying their Infant Education, 3 to 5 year, at its sites at La Alberca (Murcia) or at Montepríncipe (Molina de Segura). At Montepríncipe, the first two years of Primary Education are also open. All pupils then transfer to the El Palmar (Murcia) site to complete their Primary Education and remain there for their Secondary and Bachillerato years.

Pupils are accepted into the school in the calendar year they become three years old. The school opens an academic student record and a Guidance Department dossier which contains all the information on each student's personal progress and development over the 15 years he or she remains at ELIS. The teaching team meets with the Guidance Department every term to assess each child's progress. When a pupil transfers from the Infant Department to the Primary Department, both sets of teachers meet to facilitate a smooth transfer of information. These meetings are coordinated by the Guidance Department which has worked with the pupil from the moment he or she registers at the school.  The academic programme is the same in both schools and is integrated in a single Curricular Project developed over the last 20 years. El Limonar's curricular programme is the result of years of experience and investigation of bilingual learning.

In the third term of the Infant 5 year, different routines are established which allow pupils to become familiar with procedures and facilities which will guarantee smooth passage from Infant to Primary.

  •  Pupils begin to write down their own homework tasks in their school journals.
  • They travel to the El Palmar site swimming pool once a week
  • They are taught to form lines at the classroom door instead of being taken into the room by       their parents.
  • In June, they meet their new teachers, visit the classrooms and have lunch with other    Primary pupils
  • Parents of Infant 5 pupils are invited to the school to meet the staff and visit the facilities.

Once they start at the El Palmar site, and during their morning break, Primary 1 pupils use playground facilities designed exclusively for them and are very closely supervised during the first term. In their lunchtime break, they can decide whether they wish to join Primary 2 and 3 pupils in the large playground or continue playing in their own area.

These strategies have been implemented to ensure a smooth transition between the school's sites.
