Trips and excursions
Out of class activities are very important tools for teaching and learning as these provide a intrinsically motivating approach and give the opportunity to contrast and apply these external experiences to knowledge learnt previously by the pupil.
Well aware of its high expectations in these area, el Limonar International School considers these activities to be of upmost importanc within the learning system and in no way considers them to be secondary or residual. These activities are programmed along with the general curriculum.
Our surrounding natural environment is the perfect scenario to talk about the plants and observe the different seasonal changes that have been discussed previously in class. Thisenables the child to take active part in the investigation of his surroundings and develop important abilities such as observation, description and expression, as well as becoming sensitized to the importance of respecting nature. To encourage reading is another of our main objectives. By periodical visits to the local library where the children are able to watch theatrical representations of stories, the children become “trapped “in this wonderful world of literacy.

The social importance of different professions and jobs is shown to the children with the collaboration of parents who come to the school to explain directly to the children the most relevant aspects of their professions.
Going to the theatre, apart from being a favourite with the children, is also one of the activities that most encourages bilingual learning, by attending different theatrical representations in both English and Spanish, we are encouraging language development, increasing vocabulary and enhancing oral comprehension. Periodically English poets and writers are invited to the school to give talks about their work.
