Green School

  Our school project

Your paper is important to us”

Since the academic year 2007-2008 our school has participated in the “Green School” programme that the Murcian environmental town council set up.

We started this project by collecting and separating waste. For this we requested special rubbish containers for paper, plastic and batteries and with several different workshops with the children, we have emphasized the need to recycle at school.

We have a “green area” as you enter the school with information on work, photographs of school activities, excursions and drawings.

At Christmas we launched a campaign to recycle toys, called “It´s your turn to play”. Toys were collected and given to the children´s homes in the Murcian area with the help of the “Meeting Point” organization.

In Spring the Infant 5 children went on an outing to the “Majal Blanco” to get to know the forest, make bird houses, and in general help them learn to respect their environment.

In recognition of the school´s effort, on the 5th of June , (environmental day) the Murcian town hall and its Mayor made a special mention for our contribution and dedication to the environment.

In the academic year 2008-09 we concentrated on the theme of water (desperately needed in our region). With the help of various monitors specialized in environmental education we did several workshops about “Water drop” and “recycled soap”.

At Christmas we took part in the Unicef Campaign “Water for Nigeria” and we managed to collect 400 euros. We celebrated the World Water day in a special way by setting up an exhibition (16-26 March) and by organizing workshops on pollution, the rain cycle and the properties of water.

The aim of our environmental outing was to get to know the Segura River and the purifying plant.

During this academic year 2009-10 we are concentrating on paper and the need to recycle and reduce its consumption.

We have done several workshops concentrating on the importance of trees, getting to know them, recognising their characteristics and being aware of their presence in our gardens. We also made paper and did various activities with paper mâche .We aim to make all school members (pupils, teachers, non teaching staff, parents etc..) aware of the importance of responsible consumption, leaving behind the use and throw away culture, and adopt a more recycling attitude, making use of the things that we already have and changing our daily habits. No more” wasting” and more “saving”
