Mathematics Competition

Mathematics Olympics

The Primary and Secondary Mathematics Departments have been taking part in the Mathematics Olympics, organised by the Maths Education Society of the Region of Murcia, since 1998.

The competition aims to raise motivation and enthusiasm for maths with questions that test pupils' lateral thinking and genius. Every year, the top 10 participants are selcted to to through to the second stage. El Limonar pupils from Primary 6 and Secondary 2 have achieved success on several occasions and gone through to the national finals.

World Maths Day

For the last three years, pupils have also taken part in the activities surrounding World Maths Day, an online mathematics competition in which our pupils' competitors are millions of other pupils around the world. The activity is  very popular as pupils can also play from home, on their own computers and generates a lot of enthusiasm for ICT and maths.

Mathematics Olympics SERM 2009 - 2010

This competition for Secondary 2 students has local, regional and national phases. We have had several students win through to the regional list of the 20 top students - this year, Sandra S. P. was one of the top twenty. And, of the regional list of 20, we have had students amongst the top 3 winners who went forward to represent the Region of Murcia in the national finals - most notably, in 2004, when 2 of the three were from El Limonar.

Students from El Limonar first took part in the competition in 2006. In 2008/09 an El Limonar pupil took third place. We are especially proud of this achievement as the competition is held in Spanish and our pupils study Maths in English.
